How do I know if my compressor needs to be inspected?

Compressors themselves are not subject to inspections but do require regular maintenance by the installation company. However, the pressure vessel connected to the compressor may be subject to mandatory inspection by a certified environmental expert. In this article, we explain how to determine whether a pressure vessel needs to be inspected and what the inspection requirements are.

Compressor maintenance

Compressors do not require inspections.

Regular maintenance by the installation company is strongly recommended to ensure performance and safety.

Inspection of the pressure vessel

Whether a pressure vessel needs to be inspected depends on the following calculation:

Volume (litres) x Pressure (bar)

Calculation and obligation

  • Volume x pressure ≤ 3,000 litres x bar
    • The pressure vessel does not need to be inspected.
  • Volume x pressure > 3,000 litres x bar
    • The pressure vessel must be inspected every 5 years by a certified environmental expert.

Where to find the volume and pressure of a pressure vessel

You can find the volume and pressure (bar) on a welded plate attached to the pressure vessel.
