Inspection and control requirements for lifts and escalators

Passenger lifts must be periodically inspected by an Accredited Expert for Supervision and Control (EDTC).

Frequency depends on the maintenance contract:

With a maintenance contract: inspection by a certified maintenance company every 6 months, with an EDTC inspection also every 6 months.
Without a maintenance contract: inspection by an EDTC every 3 months.

For private lifts, an annual inspection by an EDTC is required.

Goods lifts must be inspected every 3 months by an EDTC.

Escalators do not need to be inspected by law but must undergo an annual check.
