What are the inspection requirements for storage tanks?
Storage tanks are used for storing liquids and gases and can be equipped with or without a distribution hose. Tanks with a capacity of more than 200 litres are subject to specific inspections. In this article, we explain the inspection requirements and intervals for both liquid tanks and gas tanks.
Certified environmental expert
Storage tanks can only be inspected by a certified environmental expert.
This applies to both above-ground and underground tanks.
Inspection frequency for liquid tanks
There is a difference in inspection intervals for above-ground and underground tanks:
- Underground tanks:
- Limited inspection: every 2 years
- General inspection: every 15 years
- Above-ground tanks:
- Limited inspection: every 3 years
- General inspection: every 20 years
Inspection frequency for gas tanks
Gas tanks have different inspection intervals compared to liquid tanks:
- Underground gas tanks: Annual inspection
- Above-ground gas tanks: Inspection every 5 years
